Under the chairmanship of our President, Ahmet Özhan, our foundation’s executive committee introduced the Turkish-Islamic cultural heritage to a wide audience through three separate programmes held in Mauritius.
The first of these programmes began on 1 May with the Halveti Âyin-i Şerîf, held at the historic Friday Mosque in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. The programme, in which the spiritual atmosphere was deeply felt, was followed with great interest by the congregation and guests.
The second programme took place on 2 May 2026 at the J&J Auditorium under the title ‘From Türkiye to Mauritius Sema Ceremony: The Rhythm of Love and Transformation’. Attended by approximately 1,200 people, the programme featured a concert of Turkish Sufi music and a Mevlevi Sema performance. The programme reached a wide audience across Mauritius through the local press and live broadcasts; the broadcasts reached an estimated one million people.
The programme was also attended by the Mauritian Minister for Housing and Land, Mr Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohamed.
The third event took place at the historic Al-Aqsa Mosque, the oldest mosque in Mauritius. The Halveti Ayin-i Sharif, performed in the presence of a congregation of around 500 people, served as an opportunity for the Turkish Sufi tradition to connect with the Muslim community in Mauritius.
The events contributed to further strengthening the spiritual and cultural dimensions of the relations between Turkey and Mauritius, which are rooted in historical ties. The programmes, through which the Turkish-Islamic cultural heritage was conveyed via music, zikr and sema, reinforced the bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
