Library

In 1986, the foundations of the library were laid thanks to the efforts of Safer Dal Efendi, chairman of the Foundation for the Research and Preservation of Turkish Sufi Music and Folklore; between 2020 and 2022, the library building underwent renovation and was given a new look. Designed as a specialised library, it houses a collection of numerous works on Sufism in general and the Halveti order in particular. As of today, the library holds over 10,000 registered books, and the cataloguing process continues for both newly acquired books and existing works in Ottoman Turkish, Persian, Arabic and various European languages.

The conservation and cataloguing of the manuscripts transferred from the library of the Hz. Pîr Nureddin el-Cerrâhî Âsitânesi are also ongoing. Once the cataloguing of the manuscripts is complete, it is planned to make them available to readers in digital format.

The library is also continuing to catalogue the music archive—comprising lyrics bequeathed by Nezih-Hüseyin Tolun and Ali Rıza Şengel, written in Ottoman Turkish and notated using the Western staff notation system—which consists partly of bound volumes and partly of loose sheets. This archive contains nearly 5,000 works, of which approximately forty per cent have been catalogued.
